ART DEPARTMENT

Visual Arts Level 1 courses provide students the foundational knowledge and opportunity to explore a variety of art mediums and to create individual works of art. These courses also provide a discussion and exploration of career opportunities in the art world. Initial courses cover the language, materials, and processes of a particular art form and the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design supporting a work of art. Although Visual Arts Level 1 courses focus on creation, they also include the study of major artists, art movements, and styles.

Visual Arts Level 2 courses provide students the continued building of knowledge and the opportunity to explore a variety of art forms to create individual works of art. Visual Arts Level 2 courses also provide a discussion and exploration of career opportunities in the art world. Visual Arts Level 2 courses cover the specific language, materials, and processes of particular art forms and the Elements of Art and Principles of Design supporting a work of art. The students at Visual Arts Level 2 are advanced from Visual Arts Level 1 and have become more adept, the instruction regarding the creative process becomes more refined, and students are encouraged to develop their own artistic styles. Although Visual Arts Level 2 courses focuses on creation, they also include the study of major artists, art movements, and styles.

Advanced Visual Arts Level 3 is designed to continue and extend student learning from Visual Arts Level 2.  Students will be given a variety of challenges to further develop their artistic style and expression.  Students will create a portolio reflecting their use of a variety of mediums to respond to specific challenges and indepedent study opportunities.  Students in Level 3 will also actively participate in both in-progress critiques and final art critiques as well as have the opportunity to be a docent for the CherryArts Mobile Art Gallery.
